Learn Mandarin Chinese with homestay
¡¡¡¡ Our Chinese immersion program offers a great opportunity to live with a Chinese family while you have one-on-one 20-hour per week of intensive Mandarin Chinese training. You have a close contact with Chinese culture and life while you¡¯re staying with your host family. It¡¯s the most effective way to learn Chinese language. Participants in our homestay program are offered a great opportunity to discover China and Chinese culture. By staying with a Chinese family, you will not only get a ¡°home-away-from-home¡± feeling, but will also have an opportunity to participate in a unique inter-cultural experience that you can¡¯t get from staying at campus dormitories.

Our homestay host families

¡¡¡¡We have different types of families for students to choose from. There¡¯re traditional families with 3 generations living under one roof. There¡¯re nuclear families, DINK families, and single parent families. The host families all speak standard Mandarin Chinese and most of them speak some English. Our homestay host families are carefully chosen and interviewed. They¡¯re all typical Chinese families, not westernized Chinese families. We¡¯ve worked with them with great success over the years.

Homestay facilities

¡¡¡¡Students have a private bedroom, closet, desk, TV and air conditioning. Students either have private bathroom or shared bathroom. Laundry is Chinese style. Students use washing machine and air dry the laundry. Breakfast and dinner are provided by the host family unless otherwise arranged. Students are welcome to use the kitchen to cook their own lunch. Host family will include our students in their weekend activities and some of them are educational field trips.

Lesson arrangement with homestay

There¡¯re 2 hours of self-studying and 2 hours of Mandarin conversation with the host family each day. Exams are on every Friday.
